SE Portland Chiropractic Care
At Neighborhood Chiropractic & Acupuncture, chiropractic care is more than an adjustment. Each treatment is designed around your specific needs, using a blend of evidence-informed techniques that address each complaint from multiple angles, including joint, muscle, tendon, fascia, nerve, and movement. This approach allows us to treat your body as a whole stymie, improving mobility, reducing pain, and improving daily function to get you back to doing what you love.
Sports Injury Care
As a sports chiropractor with a masters in exercise and sports science, Dr. Allie works with all types of athletes, including runners, climbers, skiers, mountain bikers, whitewater kayakers, soccer players, and weight lifters. Whether you are a weekend warrior or an elite level athlete, we can help you recover from both acute and overuse injuries, to return you to movement safely and efficiently. Treatment focuses on identifying the source of pain or restriction, improving body mechanics, and restoring strength and stability for long-term performance.
NeuroCentric Approach (NCA)
The NeuroCentric Approach is method of assessing pain and injury from the perspective of the nerves and nervous system. Rather than focusing on just the muscles and joints, this approach looks at how irritated or sensitive nerves can influence our sensations (pain, numbness, tingling, etc), and how we move and function. This approach allows Dr. Allie to evaluate pain and dysfunction from an additional point of view than the traditional musculoskeletal model.
The Dermal Traction Method (DTM) targets the superficial nerves and their relationship to the skin, fascia, and muscles they exist alongside. Using gentle manual traction or dynamic cupping with soft silicone cups, we lift the skin in specific areas and may guide you through controlled movements of the affected region. This process reduces irritation to the superficial nerves by reducing friction and compression, to improve mobility and provide quick, lasting relief, even for areas that have been tight or painful for a long time.

Spinal Manipulation (SMT)
Extremity Manipulation
This approach involves the assessment and treatment of peripheral nerves (such as the Sciatic and Median Nerves), and can cause pain, numbness, tingling, and burning like symptoms. Neurodynamics involves moving the body in ways to glide or "floss" a nerve and/or create an opening or space for nerve along its path, to help reduce compression, tension, or "pinching" of a nerve.
Stecco is a deep tissue method that helps restore proper tissue glide, reducing adhesions and friction between the different layers of tissue. This can help improve mobility, decrease pain, and optimize movement and function.
Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Manipulation (IASTM) also known as “scraping,” uses specialized tools to address tight or scarred soft tissue. It helps improve blood flow, stimulate healing, and release adhesions that can restrict movement.
Targeted exercises support and complement in office treatment by increasing local blood flow, improving stability, reducing compensating patterns, and developing strength. Exercise is used during all stages of care, including as rehab for a current injury, as prehab to prevent future injury, and also as training to improve performance.
Gentle, precise adjustments restore normal motion to the joints of the spine, to help improve mobility and reduce stiffness. Adjustments can be done manually or using tools to reduce impact to the joint, and is based on your comfort level and current pain or injury.
We also adjust joints outside the spine, such as the shoulders, hips, knees, wrists, and ankles, to improve alignment, function, and coordination throughout the entire body.
What To Expect
If you have never seen a chiropractor before, feeling nervous is reasonable. The first visit will have three main components: learning your health history and current pain points, performing a physical exam, and the initial treatment.
By detailing your medical history and areas of complaint, we can establish a foundation for your treatment. After the history, we do an assessment (physical exam) to help determine what structure or structures are causing your symptoms.
Our exam usually starts with observing your active movement or range of motion and will then move into muscle tests, orthopedic tests, nerve tension tests, and possibly functional movement assessments, to rule in what the cause of pain is and rule out other possible causes.
The assessment and physical exam help us design the best course of treatment. We will explain what we found in the exam, what that might mean for you, and what treatment modalities we recommend. We also continually communicate with you to ensure your comfort, reviewing the options that feel right to you.
Chiropractic treatments are safe and highly effective. Just like starting a new workout program can make muscles temporarily sore, you may experience a bit of soreness after your first adjustment.
If that happens, we recommend gentle daily movements to encourage circulation through the tender area. Using a hot pack for up to 20 minutes over the sore area can help improve blood flow to calm the areas and reduce soreness. If heat does not help, you can try ice for 20 minutes over the area to help reduce inflammation and pain.
Chiropractic Testimonials
See what our patients say about chiropractic care at Neighborhood Chiropractic and Acupuncture!
"This was our first visit with Dr Dashiell- my elderly mother fell 2 days ago and bruised her hip. The pain wasn't easing and Dr Dashiell was able to get us in the next day. I was so impressed with the different modalities she used, and how she carefully explained everything she was doing, so my mother (88 yo) could both understand, and then follow the home care and exercises. I'm very pleased with the care my mother received, and the considerate, compassionate way she was treated by Dr. Dashiell."

She also listens and asks questions and really tries to get to the bottom of whatever is going on. Brest chiropractic experience I've had and I tell everyone about her!"
