Chiropractic: What is Included?

Many insurance plans consider chiropractic care to include only the adjustment (or manipulation) and do not include the additional services often performed by chiropractors. These additional services are often referred to as physical therapy services, and include manual therapy (cupping, scraping, deep tissue work, etc), exercises, electrical stimulation, heat, ultrasound, laser, and more. Some insurance plans lump the chiropractic and PT services together, whereas others separate them. This varies from one insurance plan to another, and can affect the amount you may owe for your visit.

Our chiropractor, Dr. Allie, looks at the body and injuries from a movement perspective and her treatments often include a mix of both chiropractic and physical therapy services. Her treatments will always be catered to each individual and the specifics of their symptoms (pain, numbness, tension, discomfort etc) and goals as determined by the history and physical examination, and agreed upon by both the doctor and you, the patient.

If the practitioner you’d like to work with in is not in network with your insurance, not accepting new patients with your insurance, or you do not have coverage for a service you’re interested in, we are still more than happy to see you! Our lovely patient services specialist, Jorjah, would be happy to help you navigate your options and discuss any potential discounts for paying at the time of your visit if we will not be billing your insurance for a particular service. You are welcome to schedule the appropriate visit type online, complete our intake paperwork, and give us a call or send us an e-mail with any questions you may have!

Oregon Health Plan (OHP)

The Oregon Health Plan (OHP) physical health plans all have different referral requirements for chiropractic care.

  • Trillium: Trillium does not require a referral for either chiropractic or acupuncture care. However, the “chiropractic care” only covers the chiropractic adjustment. Any additional services (physical therapy) that may be performed require a referral.
  • OHSU Moda: No referral required for chiropractic, acupuncture, or additional services (physical therapy).
  • PacificSource / Providence / Open Card: A referral is required for chiropractic, acupuncture, and additional services (physical therapy).
  • Kaiser: A referral is required for both chiropractic and acupuncture care. Additional services, such as physical therapy, are not covered by OHP Kaiser.
  • Care Oregon: we are not currently in network with Care Oregon.

If the practitioner you’d like to work with in is not In Network with your insurance or you do not have coverage for a service you’re interested in, we are still more than happy to see you! Please book a New Patient appointment, complete our intake paperwork, and we can review our discount for paying at the time of your services.

Motor Vehicle Accidents (MVA’s)

We accept Personal Injury Protection (PIP) insurance for those who have been in motor vehicle accidents. Simply book a new patient appointment or an extended visit if you are a current patient. Please include in the appointment note that you are seeking care for a MVA when scheduling. We will get in touch with you to gather some accident-related information in addition to our standard patient paperwork.

Referrals are not required for chiropractic or acupuncture treatment for MVA-related claims. Massage only requires a referral if you plan to seek massage services outside of our office.

Complimentary Benefit Check

As a courtesy, we are happy to provide all new patients with a complimentary benefit check as quoted to us by your insurance company. We understand that insurance benefits can be complicated, and we do our best to help make that process as easy for you as possible.

Once you schedule your initial appointment, you will receive an email confirming your appointment with a link to your intake paperwork included. We ask that your paperwork be submitted a minimum of 24 hours prior to your scheduled appointment time. This allows us to check your insurance and make sure all appropriate details are in order prior to your visit.

Ultimately, patients are responsible for knowing and understanding their benefits at the time of the service. We encourage you to review your member booklet provided by your insurance and to contact your insurance company to ask about your benefits and the network status of your provider by calling the member contact phone number located on the back of your insurance card. Always get a reference number!

Existing Patient Insurance Plan Changes

If you are an existing patient and your insurance has changed since your last visit, please send us your updated information at least two business days prior to your next appointment.
You can send photos of your insurance card, or you can type out the name of the policy holder (if not yourself), the member ID, and the group number, and email us at: info@neighborhoodchiro.com
